Dental Injuries

Our experienced team is ready to help treat traumatic dental injuries that may occur in our patients. After a dental injury, it is our goal to save your natural teeth, while ensuring this tooth is viable and can function properly. Dental injuries usually occur as a result of an accident or an injury while playing sports. Sometimes, these injuries can be relatively small–such as chipped teeth. Or, they can be very serious and require intense treatment–such as a dislodged or knocked-out tooth. Regardless of the type of injury, it is vital to see Dr. Kirk Coury, Dr. Kenny Falk, and Dr. Viet Vo as soon as possible.
Treatment of Dental Injuries
Treatment of a dental injury depends on several factors, including the location, type, and severity of the trauma. Below are some of the most common types of dental injuries and how our specialists address them:
- Chipped or fractured teeth: These injuries can often be repaired by reattaching the broken fragment or using a tooth-colored filling. If the pulp is exposed or damaged after a crown fracture, root canal treatment may be required to preserve the tooth.
- Dislodged teeth: When a tooth is pushed sideways out of its socket, our specialists can reposition and stabilize it. In many cases, root canal treatment for permanent teeth is necessary and typically begins several days after the injury.
- Knocked-out teeth: If a tooth is completely knocked out, immediate care is critical. The sooner you’re seen, the better the chances of saving the tooth. Our specialists may be able to reinsert and stabilize it, with endodontic treatment planned for a later stage based on your individual case.
- Root fractures: Injuries can also result in horizontal root fractures. Fractures closer to the tip of the root generally have a better prognosis, while those closer to the gum line present more of a challenge in saving the natural tooth.
Dr. Kirk Coury, Dr. Kenny Falk, and Dr. Viet Vo have extensive experience in managing traumatic dental injuries and will determine the most appropriate course of treatment to help you heal and restore function.
