FAQs

1. What is endodontics and when do I need treatment?
Endodontics is a dental specialty focused on diagnosing and treating issues inside the tooth, particularly the pulp and root canal system. You may need endodontic care if you’re experiencing severe tooth pain, sensitivity to temperature, swelling, or have sustained dental trauma. Root canal therapy aims to save your natural tooth and prevent infection
2. What are common periodontal procedures and why are they important?
Periodontics involves treating gum disease and supporting structures around the teeth. Common procedures include scaling and root planing (deep cleanings), gum grafts, crown lengthening, and bone regeneration. These treatments control infection, reverse tissue loss, and help maintain dental implants .
3. Is a root canal painful?
Not anymore. Thanks to modern anesthesia, sedation options (like nitrous oxide), and advanced techniques, root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than getting a routine filling. You’ll be numb during treatment and can drive or resume daily activities afterward.
4. How effective is periodontal treatment for gum disease?
Extremely effective when combined with good oral hygiene. Procedures like deep cleanings and pocket reduction eliminate harmful bacteria, and regenerative therapies restore bone and gum health. With ongoing maintenance, you’ll significantly reduce your risk of tooth loss and systemic effects of gum disease.
5. What technology enhances endodontic and periodontal care?
Our office uses digital x-rays, surgical microscopes, cone-beam CT imaging (3D scans), and advanced sterilization—improving diagnostic accuracy, safety, and treatment outcomes.
6. Do I need a referral to see an endodontist or periodontist?
A referral from your general dentist helps streamline care, but many patients can schedule directly. We also coordinate with other dental professionals as needed.
7. Are emergencies handled outside normal hours?
Yes. Dental emergencies—like broken teeth or intense pain—are addressed promptly. Call our office after hours, and the on-call specialist will assist you, or we can schedule same-day treatment during business hours.
8. How do I prepare for endodontic or periodontal treatment?
For endodontics: take prescribed medications, eat normally, and inform us of any health conditions. We often recommend pre-treatment ibuprofen for inflammation.
For periodontal procedures: maintain routine oral hygiene, avoid smoking, and we’ll give you clear pre- and post-op instructions.
9. What about post-treatment expectations?
- After a root canal: Minor soreness is normal and usually managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. You’ll return to your restorative dentist for a crown to protect the treated tooth.
- After periodontal care: You may experience light bleeding or sensitivity. Soft foods and gentle brushing help during healing. We’ll schedule follow-ups to monitor tissue health.
10. How long do results last?
With proper care, root canal-treated teeth and periodontal improvements can last a lifetime. Regular dental check-ups, cleanings, and maintenance help preserve both your tooth and gum health.
